Founding of Metalúrgica de Santa Ana
The Metalúrgica de Santa Ana factory was inaugurated in Linares (Spain), specializing in the production of agricultural equipment.

In its early years, the company manufactured parts and components for tractors and other machinery
1958
Start of Santana automobile production
An agreement is signed with Land Rover for the licensed production of off-road vehicles.

The first Land Rover Santana vehicles roll off the production line, adapted to the harsh conditions of Spain.
1968
Santana expands beyond Spain.
The brand becomes a key player in the markets of South America, Africa, and Europe.

Export lines are opened: Santana supplies vehicles to over 50 countries
1970s
surge in production
The Santana range expands: the Series II and Series III versions are launched, recognized for their robustness and durability.

During the years of highest production, the factory produces up to 30,000 vehicles per year.
1980
Complete production cycle
Santana Motors obtains the right to develop and modify its vehicles without Land Rover’s approval.

The company launches its own versions of off-road vehicles, adapted for both military and civilian uses.
1985
Collaboration with Suzuki
A contract is signed with Suzuki, initiating production of Suzuki SJ and other models under the Santana brand.

The successful launch of models such as the Suzuki Samurai, Vitara, and Jimny at the Spanish factory.
1995 - 2000s
Financial difficulties and revival attempt
The government of Andalusia takes control of the company, attempting to reorganize it.

Development of the Santana Aníbal (PS-10), an in-house off-road vehicle inspired by the classic Defender.

New agreements are signed with IVECO, leading to the launch of the Massif model.
2011
End of production
The Santana factory in Linares closes, and the final vehicles roll off the production line.

The Santana brand officially ceases operations.

Grupo JPG retains the Intellectual Property and maintains the distribution of spare parts for Santana vehicles still on the road.
2023
Rebirth of the legend
Creation of Santana Motors, S.L., with the participation of several automotive industry experts and the JPG Group, aiming to revive the legendary Santana brand at its historic facilities.

The project is backed by the Santana Motors team, the Linares City Council, and the Regional Government of Andalusia to reactivate the brand from its iconic facilities.
2024
Presentation of the PS8 prototype
First vehicle after a 13-year hiatus.

Designed specifically for public agencies and tenders.
2024
Creation of Santana Factory, S.L.
Presentation to the Andalusian Regional Government in Beijing of the 'Santana Factory' project, a collaboration between Santana Motors and the Coronet Group.

The project receives support from the Spanish regional government for the reindustrialization of the area.
2025
Agreement with Zhengzhou Nissan
Santana Motors announces at the Shanghai International Auto Show its strategic alliance with Zhengzhou Nissan to revolutionize the off-road vehicle market.
